Last month Alison Glass sent me nine fat quarters of Lucky Penny, her debut line of prints for Andover Fabrics. The colors are deep and vibrant, and the prints are bold without being fussy. And the 'Bike Path' dot stripes are perfect.
I added a tenth print from the collection, and paired the prints with about 20 solids from my stash in coordination colors.
To make the most of the fat quarters, I upped the strip size from 2 1/2" to 3 3/8" (couldn't quite squeeze out 3 1/2") by 21" long, yielding 17" blocks.
Sixteen blocks later I have a quilt top.
I'm so happy with it as a complete quilt, and I love how the larger squares show off the prints.

Love how you used larger squares! I saw someone with smaller squares in the center and larger square blocks surrounding.

ReplyDeleteonce again, I enjoy seeing your take on what might otherwise be familiar. I love the bold, rich colors, and the larger scale. I was trying to clear some other projects from 'really? this isn't done yet??' list before jumping on board with the Trips thing, but I was so tempted just so I could start working with (what is in my world) heaps of fat quarters that have been lying around for a little too long. I wanted to go bigger; thanks for working out the math for me.

ReplyDeleteYes! Yes! I too, am doing a larger version (strips cut 3.5 x 21) because I didn't want my large scale prints to be cut down too much. Yours is lovely inspiration.
